5 out of 5 stars Best All-Around Cordless Drill I've Used So Far   January 7, 2009
I've had this drill for almost a year and love it. As a handyman, I use it all the time and think it's the best drill I've ever had - and I've had a lot of drills over the years. It doesn't have the absolute torque of some of my other drills, but it's now the one I grab for 90% of what I want to do. There are a few things I'd improve so I guess it's really 4.5 stars. Here's the breakdown:

Pros:
- Light weight with GREAT balance & grip (best "feel" of any drill out there).
- Short length fits into tight spots.
- Fast recharge time.
- Belt clip & light are more than just marketing gimmicks - they're actually useful.
- Now interchangeable with Milwaukee's bigger XC batteries - you can choose between lighter weight or longer run time, whichever is more important to you. I haven't tried these yet.
- Milwaukee's customer service. Even "minor" questions are answered promptly from their website - sometimes with a follow-up from a real (American) person. Whoa!

Cons:
- Short run time. I wouldn't choose it for putting down a deck unless the charger was close by. Maybe the XC batteries will clear this up.
- Plastic chuck. I like a metal chuck ring that doesn't get damaged when it hits things like metal boxes or beams.
- Good, but not great, torque; certainly no worse than others in this class.
- Now Chinese made. Unfortunately it's the only way to stay cost competitive. Hope they have good QC.

I haven't tried the Makita version of this drill, but I hear it's also good. Probably made in the same factory. Anyway, the Milwaukee version is great.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent drill   January 6, 2009
I purchased this drill for my birthday about three months ago. I am very pleased. I used it recently with an half inch auger bit in the attic to run electrical wires down the walls. The chuck is very nice gripping to any bit tightly. It ratchets to increase tightness.

The battery power indicator is a nice feature. The charger charges the batteries quickly.

The drill is compact and well balanced.

The price for this product is a good value. I would purchase it again.

5 out of 5 stars Once again, Milwaukee satisfies   January 6, 2009
This is the fourth Milwaukee drill/driver we have bought, after being being nothing but elated with the larger ones previously purchased. We needed a compact unit for field service work (as opposed to shop work for the others), and this one fit the bill perfectly. Love the light. Was a bit disappointed with the chuck - only because we are used to the all-metal micro-tork chucks on the larger units - having said that, we have encountered 0 chuck problems, so I guess its just a preference for metal on my part. Batteries are awesome. Only drawback is that I wish the battery was reversible as they are on some of the full size units. Overall, highly recommend this unit.

5 out of 5 stars Homeowner Workhorse Milwaukee V18 Drill   January 4, 2009
I recently purchased this drill after my DeWalt 7.3 batteries finally bit the dust. It was the best tool in my kit for nearly ten years! Still, the cost of new batteries combined with the limited power was reason enough to upgrade. I was tempted and may well still opt for the more compact V12 drill/driver, although this rig seems to work on the smaller projects just fine. The optional 21-piece bit/drill set is a great accessory although any brand will do. Since I don't use this thing on a daily bases, it's a bit early for me to provide a complete review. Still, I'm a quality geek and this drill/driver is certainly nicer than the more bulky alternative brands in its class.

BTW: I purchased mine from Home Depot so I could return it without shipping charges in the event it didn't work out. However, the better (lower) price is right here on Amazon.
Regards,

Awesome little drill. Light, powerful and easy to handle. The battery packs seem to drain fairly quickly, but, it only takes 30 minutes to recharge.
